The University of the Balearic Islands and the Government of the Balearic Islands want to promote the development of initiatives that promote innovation, training and research on topics related to insularity. This Chair of Insularity was born out of the need to generate, compile and analyze information related to the particular characteristics of insularity in the Balearic Islands, with the aim of informing and guiding public policies in a transversal way, promoting its sustainable development and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants. It is time for the Balearic Islands to lead this strategy ahead of other European islands.
Our work
Insularity studies
We carry out insularity studies on topics such as transportation costs, effects of tourism, sustainable mobility, population, and economy among other topics.
Map viewer and databases
We are in the process of creating a cartographic viewer that will be linked to a database that will collect information on topics of interest and compare the data with other European islands.
Our director Joana Maria Seguí Pons participated in the II Cultural Forum of the European Islands held in Sardinia, Italy. You can see his appearance from minute 4:09.
